The Clinical Nutrition Department of Thumbay Hospital, Ajman is dedicated to provide Nutritional Counselling for its clients and patients who are keen to learn and follow healthy dietary habits for promoting good health. The counselling is provided by the Registered Dietitians who assess and analyze the patient's dietary habits and physical well being and provide tailor made Diet plans and guidelines to suit patient's lifestyle.

What is Nutritional Counselling?
Nutritional counselling is a type of assessment made which analyzes various health needs of a person with regards to diet and exercise. It is an ongoing process in which a Nutritional counsellor works with an individual to assess his or her dietary intake and identify areas where change is needed to achieve positive health.

Nutritional Counselling usually begins with an interview in which the nutritional counsellor or Dietitian asks questions about a person's typical food intake. Different methods are used to assess food intake of the clients which include

  1. 24 hour recall method.
  2. Food Frequency Questionnaire.
  3. Daily Food Records or Food Diary
  • Nutritional Counsellor assesses the individual's body weight either by comparing to standard weight for height charts (which may not prove accurate for different frame sizes) or by calculating the Body Mass Index (BMI) of the person. A BMI of 20-25 is considered as normal weight, a BMI of less than 25 is considered underweight and a BMI of greater than 25 is considered as overweight leading to obesity, the biggest challenge of today's world...
  • The Nutritional Counsellor and client work together to identify areas where change is needed ; prioritize changes and set up goals for attaining positive health.
